Victoria Soto: The Teacher Who Gave Everything for Her Kids
Victoria Soto was just 27, a young teacher who absolutely loved her job and her first-graders at Sandy Hook Primary School. For her, teaching wasn't just about reading and sums – it was about making kids feel safe, loved, and confident. Her classroom was always warm, full of giggles and trust.
On 14 December 2012, when a gunman got into the school, Victoria didn't run. She quickly hid her pupils in cupboards and told them to stay quiet. When he came into her classroom, she stood between him and the children, telling him they were somewhere else. In those awful moments, all she cared about was keeping her kids safe. Many of them survived because of what she did.
Victoria's bravery wasn't something she suddenly found that day – it was just who she was. She'd always put children first, and in her final moments she showed everyone what real love and courage look like. She was clear about one thing: protect the innocent, whatever it takes. She gave her life so others could live.
