"End the Gulf cold war — people deserve peace."
Saudi Arabia vs UAE: Yemen's Become Their Playground
They Were Supposed to Be Mates
For years we were told Saudi Arabia and the UAE were thick as thieves. They went into Yemen together, said they were fighting the Houthis and sorting out the chaos. Turned out that was bollocks. Yemen's pulled the curtain back on what's really going on — and it's looking more like a turf war than a partnership.
Where It's All Kicking Off
- Saudi Arabia bombed Mukalla — reckoned UAE-linked ships were sneaking weapons to separatists.
- Saudi-backed forces took back bits of Hadramout from militias the UAE's been propping up.
- Leaders friendly with the UAE got called to Riyadh and told to get in line.
Riyadh's basically dismantling everything Abu Dhabi's been building in Yemen.
What They're Actually Fighting Over
This isn't really about Yemen — it's about who runs the show in the Gulf.
- The Saudis want Yemen back together and under their control.
- The UAE would rather it stayed split, so they can hold onto the southern ports and trade routes.
- This spat's bleeding into the Red Sea, Sudan, everywhere — and it's mucking up any real pushback against Iran.
- Even businesses are getting dragged in, with Riyadh leaning on firms to ditch Dubai and move to Saudi instead.
Who's Actually Paying for This
While the Gulf princes play Risk with real countries, ordinary Yemenis are the ones getting screwed.
- More fighting means more hunger, more people forced out of their homes.
- Real lives are just tokens in their cold war.
- Any hope for peace keeps getting shoved aside for power games.
Why This Matters
This isn't some faraway squabble between royals. It's a betrayal of millions of Yemenis who just want to live normal lives — not be used as pieces on someone else's board.
Saudi Arabia and the UAE need to be called out for treating Yemen like it's theirs to carve up. We can't let their egos matter more than people's suffering.
